We A/B tested 240 videos with AI-written and human-written scripts. The result was not the simple win for either side that everyone predicted.

AI vs human TikTok scripts: which converts better in 2026?

Every week someone DMs us asking the same question: should I write my TikTok scripts myself, or let an AI do it? We ran the experiment for 90 days across six accounts in three niches. Here is what the data actually says.

The setup

  • 6 accounts: two in fitness, two in personal finance, two in beauty.
  • 240 videos total: 120 AI-written, 120 human-written, posted in randomised order.
  • Each pair shared the topic but was scripted independently. The human writer never saw the AI script, and vice-versa.
  • Same creator filmed both versions.
  • Tracked: average watch-through, follower-conversion rate, comment-positivity sentiment.

The AI scripts came out of TikBoost Studio, prompted with the niche and one example of the creator's previous best-performing video.

Headline numbers

In short: AI wins short, hooky, formula-driven content. Humans win longer, trust-building content. And humans are still better at writing scripts that produce kind comments.

Where AI clearly outperforms

  1. Hooks under 5 seconds. When the deliverable is "give me 10 hook options for this concept", AI is faster, more varied, and statistically better-tested than a single human writer brainstorming alone.
  2. Listicles and "X reasons" formats. The structured nature plays to LLM strengths.
  3. First drafts of trend-jacking videos where speed matters more than depth.
  4. Repurposing the same idea across multiple niches.

In our fitness account, the AI hooks accounted for 8 of the top 10 highest-watched videos of the quarter.

Where humans still win, and probably will keep winning

  1. Personal stories. AI scripts pretend to have experiences. Audiences notice. Sentiment was -12 points in our personal finance test for AI-written "my biggest money mistake" videos.
  2. Niche jargon and inside-baseball humor. AI tends to over-explain to imagined newcomers, killing the in-group feeling that drives loyal followings.
  3. Long-form (60s+) educational content. Pacing, anecdote integration, and tonal shifts still feel mechanical.
  4. Anything emotionally vulnerable. Don't use AI for the videos where you need the audience to trust you the most.

The actual right answer: hybrid pipeline

The combo that beat both AI-only and human-only in every single test was the same:

  1. AI generates 5 hook options for the concept.
  2. Creator picks the hook that feels most "them" and rewrites it in their voice.
  3. AI drafts the body.
  4. Creator rewrites paragraphs 1 and the closing, leaves the middle largely as-is.

This took our writers an average of 11 minutes per script — a third of pure-human time — while preserving the watch-through and conversion metrics of human-only scripts. It is also the fastest way to overcome the blank-page problem.

What this means if you are starting today

If you are below 10k followers: lean AI-heavy. You need volume to find your voice, and AI gives you that without burning out.

If you are above 50k followers: lean human-heavy on hero content (your best 1-2 posts per week) and AI-heavy on filler/test posts.

In every case: never copy-paste an AI script unedited. The 4-point watch-through penalty for AI-only long content was almost entirely driven by the four or five "tells" we now look for: over-balanced sentence structure, generic transitions, and explicit summary paragraphs.
